The Business The Electronic Document Company (EDC) commenced trading in 1990 as a short run digital printing company. The challenges of this market are complex, with clients requiring multiple printed stock lines such as training manuals, brochures & stationery. They also require non-printed items to be included such as pens, pads, binders & freebies. All these items are usually sourced across a wide range of suppliers, in varying locations. They then need to be assembled and shipped in various kits to venues throughout the UK. Through improvements in print and communications technology the market for this type of service has evolved from printing longer runs and holding significant stocks to lower stocks, faster turnaround and Print on Demand. Over the past 13 years, the company has differentiated itself from other printing companies by writing bespoke software to solve customers' publishing problems. In 1998, much of the software that had been written to date was drawn together into our DocuPump™ package. DocuPump™ is proprietary software that provides customers with automated control of Supply Chain Execution (SCE), Our DocuPump™ website is not merely a sales tool or a catalogue for e-order placement outside of the normal working day. It is the gateway to a powerful program that controls print manufacturing and fulfilment, with the potential to cut costs, improve efficiency and eliminate error for our corporate clients. The Internet is a key component in the ability of our company to provide this service; approximately 90% of our business is conducted through the software, and we actively encourage new and existing clients who hold a more traditional view of the Print Industry to rethink their document management strategy through our consultancy and training service. This provides Supply Chain Analysis, DocuPump Training and PDF Workflow Implementation guidance to educate and illustrate where and how costs can be reduced and ROI increased through use of the Internet and our solution. |
